Todd Baldino Memorial Scholarship

This has been a very difficult year. We were forced by the Covid-19 pandemic to cancel the annual golf outing which provides the funding for the Todd Baldino Memorial Scholarships. However, thanks to the remarkable  fundraising efforts of my fellow scholarship committee members,  Joe Baldino and Ed Casey,  we are still able to award 18 scholarships in the amount of $500, notwithstanding the unique challenges presented by the virus.

Heartfelt congratulations to the following 2020 scholarship recipients, whose applications reflect how many wonderful things that they have accomplished academically, athletically and through school and community service. There are some absolutely awesome young people who play soccer in our club.

Allison Carley, Kaleigh Robinson, Shayne Dougherty, Natalie Hatfield, Madelyn Grodzielanek, Megan Brown, Jessica Burg, Stephanie Titterton, Lily Stanwyck, Nicole Buonavolta, Alessia Catanzariti, Myles Denton, Katarina Little, Samantha Schmidt, Gabrielle Dean, Emily Leary, Ava Wilson, Alexis Boykin

These scholarships mean a lot to us. They honor Todd Baldino, who like the 2020 recipients, grew up on our fields. They also recognize the extraordinary dignity and grace with which the Baldino family dealt with an unspeakable tragedy.

I have been coaching at TBAA for 22 years and have served on the executive board for nearly as long. My wife spent many, many  years as a district commissioner. My four boys never played a game for another soccer program and two of them have become TBAA coaches. TBAA soccer has been a huge part of our lives. Many of your applications reflect what I have learned through all of these seasons: what is important about soccer is not the games that you have won,  the trophies that you have accumulated or the conference in which your team competed. Rather, what is significant, and wonderful,  are  the relationships that you have made with your coaches and teammates, many of which you will carry with you throughout your lifetime. For example, through soccer, I met Mr. Baldino and Mr. Casey and their families; there are not more kind, generous and selfless people walking the face of this earth, and knowing them has greatly enriched my life.

We are proud that we have been able to award more than $100,000 in scholarships through this program. We thank our TBAA President, Anthony Cecero, the TBAA executive board, the TBAA coaches and our TBAA families for their ongoing support, without which this would not be possible. I know of no other youth sports group which awards scholarships at this level, and this scholarship program is a testament to the tremendous value of continuing a community-based, family-oriented soccer organization.

A special thanks to Michelle Baldino, the kindest of souls, without whom this would not be possible.

We wish you the very best throughout your college careers and beyond. As the years go by, please consider giving your time to TBAA, this great game, or any other cause for which you are passionate; I guarantee you that volunteerism is very rewarding. As I have often told my players, give more than you get, love more than you are loved.

Mr. Baldino will be distributing the scholarships in the near future.

 Kindest Regards,

 Rich Barkasy
