Intramural FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

When do the intramural teams play?

All of our intramural teams play on Saturday mornings and they are all finished before noon. Our parents have told us that they prefer this day and time since they have the entire rest of the weekend free for other family activities (or work around the house!).

When do the intramural seasons begin and end?

Our Spring season begins in early to mid March when the weather breaks and runs until just before Memorial Day.  Our Fall season begins the week after Labor Day and runs until just before Thanksgiving.

Where do the intramural teams play?

All of the games are played at our Soccer Complex which consists of the Gloucester Township Sports Complex (commonly known as the Valleybrook Complex) and the Glen Landing/Loring Fleming Schools. Our Soccer Complex is located just off Chews Landing Road and Little Gloucester Road. Click HERE for directions and a map of the complex.

When and where do the teams practice?

All of the practice areas are local and include the front of Glen Landing School, Chews School and other areas. The teams usually practice once a week in the evening.

What is the age-breakdown of the program?

Numbers permitting, we have the following age groups in our intramural program:

Under - 5  (Player must be 4 years old before September 1st to be eligible for the fall season) (Players must be 4 years old before March 15th to be eligible for the spring season)

                Under - 6

                Under - 7

                Under - 9

What does this "Under - X" mean?

The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) uses a soccer year that begins on August 1st until July 31st. As a member of the USSF, we follow these guidelines for both our travel and intramural programs. Thus, the player’s age prior to August 1st determines his "soccer age". For example, a player born on July 15, 2000 would be considered an "Under - 8" for the soccer year running from August 1, 2007 through July 31, 2008.

Are the teams co-ed?

We have separate girls and boys programs for each of our intramural age groups.

How many players are on the field during the games?

It depends on the age group. T.B.A.A. is very proud to be at the forefront of utilizing modern small-sided formats which have proven to be successful in teaching young players the basics of soccer. We normally play 3 vs. 3 at the Under-5 and Under-6 levels, then 4 vs. 4  at the Under-7  and Under-8/9 level.

What are T.B.A.A.’s goals at the intramural level?

We make sure that the fun and enjoyment of the game of soccer remains our top priority.

At the same time, we feel that by learning the basics of soccer, such as proper ball skills, positional responsibilities, sportsmanship and teamwork, the players can continue to grow and develop with the sport. Our intramural games are non-competitive - there are no wins, losses, records or championships. Everyone plays, everyone learns and everyone has a blast.

What is the cost?

The registration fee for intramural players is only $80 per season.

What does TBAA supply and what do I need to get for my player?

TBAA supplies a uniform shirt, soccer shorts and soccer socks.  You should get your child a pair of shinguards and soccer cleats.  We also suggest that, although our teams have many practice soccer balls, each child should have their own ball (size 3) and a water bottle to take to practice and games.

I live outside Gloucester Township, can my child still play for TBAA?

Absolutely. TBAA is an "open" club and anyone is permitted to join.

My child plays baseball/softball in the spring. Can they still play spring soccer?

Absolutely! Many of our players play both soccer and that other sport that uses a stick and a ball during the spring season. Since we play our games on Saturday mornings, there is no conflict with the baseball/softball games. Our coaches realize that players will miss the occasional weeknight practice because of their other spring sport. This is no problem at all.

What if I want to get involved in the club?

We’d love it! We are always on the lookout for coaches and assistant coaches for our younger players. If you have soccer experience - great. If not, we’ll be happy to provide training and guidance and try to pair you with an experienced individual. We are starting to see our former players who have finished their high school careers, return to TBAA to coach at our intramural level and we feel that this says more for our club that anything that we could say. If you would like to participate in another area of our club, we’d be happy to have you join in.
